2/5/11 - I just spent a few hours working on the website and I have it updated and the old forum up, please check it out and start posting.
2/4/11 - The next trip is going to be Presidents Weekend Feb 18-21
Hey everyone. I know long time no hear from, I’ve been slammed at work since the beginning of the year and it never seems to stop. I know you are all itching to go riding since I keep getting emails from everyone asking what’s up and when the next ride is. Well the next trip is coming up and I wanted to get a hold of everyone to make sure we can all meet up for the weekend. The next trip is Presidents weekend (Feb 18th-21st) and last time we went riding Ida had mentioned going Spangler Hills. It’s off the 395 just north of Randsburg, so it not too much farther from Cuddeback Dry Lake. If you are planning on going out with us for Presidents Weekend please let me know, if you prefer someplace other than Spangler Hills let me know that as well.
On a side note if everyone is up for it I will get the Desertriders.org Forum going again so everyone can posts trips they are going on, this way I am not the single cause of failure for the group not going out. I had this forum up for quite some time and not many (Trevor, Aida and I) are the only ones that ever posted any info on it. So if everyone is up for it I will get the forum working again and start updating the website with trip info as well. But please be honest, it’s a lot of work to keep updating the site and if the group is not going to use these tools I can still send out the emails. The emails are just not as reliable as a forum that is up 24x7 since it is up to me to send them out.
If you have no idea what a “forum” is or what I am talking about visit www.keystonerv.org and check out this forum, I started this as a complaint center for Keystone RVs and now it has grown into a full blown forum with three almost full time moderators. So this stuff does take work and I don’t mind doing it, I feel bad that I don’t get the emails and information out to everyone in a timely manner and I am just trying to make it easier for everyone to find out what’s going on.

5/27/10 - The next trip is going to be the Memorial Weekend
Where did everyone go? We had a great start to the riding season last October with new faces and new friends joining us and then we hit 2010 and everyone got busy. Well let’s see if we can make the end of this riding season a good one by getting everyone out again on Memorial Weekend. Memorial day is Monday May 31st this year, we are planning on heading out the afternoon of Friday the 28th , to where I have no idea at this point (thinking Johnson Valley / Dove Springs) but we are definitely heading out on a riding trip.
If you think you can make this trip please let me know, I would like to see you all again before the long hot summer takes our riding time away.
Also, if you are interested some of us are doing a little “surf and turf” trip this year. We are heading out to Parker California on June 19th – 26th for some desert riding and jet skiing/boating. We plan to ride in the morning till it gets too damn hot and then cool off in the Colorado river all afternoon playing on Jet skis and boats. If this sounds like fun to you and you’re interested, join us for a great time. We are staying at the “Big Bend” resort, we have reserved spaces 128 -134 already, so book your spot now as close to us as possible. You can call Big Bend resort at 760-663-3755.
One last thing, if you are into racing or like being a spectator there is the Mammoth Motocross coming up in June as well. It might be a great place to go ride as well as taking in a little racing with the family. If you are interested take a look at the website http://www.mammothmotocross.com/ and then do a “reply all” to see if anyone else is interested. I would go up, but it is the same week as the River trip so I will already be out riding, just is a much warmer environment.
I will keep this update short, if you are interested in any of these trips please let me know or just reply to the group. Hope to see you all on the Memorial weekend trip!

HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE! The next trip is going to be MLK Weekend on January 15th - 18th
Well the next trip is right around the corner, literally in two weekends so don't unpack the RV yet. Change the oil in the bikes and clean the air filters because we are heading out again in 10 more days. The group decided at the New Years trip to head back to Calico for some riding and Jeepin' and I am hoping that everyone will be joining us again and for those of you who didn't make it out for New Years hopefully you can join us on this next trip.
The New Years trip was great; we had a good turn out and had some great new friends join us for the week. Dave it was great seeing you again and meeting your family (Jeanette, Sydney and Riley). Once again there was an incredible fireworks show on New Years and most were able to stay up for the show at midnight, only the little kids and old people fell asleep. The only issue we had was that two more of our Desertriders.org signs ended up missing again, we seem to be losing at least once sign a trip these days. Time to make some new signs up and put some GPS locators on them.
We did not end up in our usual spot, but we did end up on the dry lake bed which I think worked out even better for us. The kids had a great time riding around and we ended up with a couple of stars for the weekend. Lucas and Isabelle both ended up riding from Cuddeback Dry lake to Randsberg, Lucas rode the entire way on the 50 with training wheels and Isabelle rode the 90 quad. I am glad to see I have a little rider in the family and they both made it the 19 miles to Randsberg without any problems. Great job kids!
We made a couple group rides and a few of us ended up taking our bikes down the gauntlet, there are some pictures of the rocks we carried the bikes over and down. It was not a fast ride but it was adventurous and we all had a good time.
I have uploaded the pictures I got from everyone and I am still waiting on the pictures from Dennis, once I get those I will add them to the site as well.
Directions to Calico can be found here. I am not quite sure of where we are going to camp but keep an eye out for the Desertriders.org signs once you get there.
See everyone in a two weeks!

New Years on December 28th - January 3rd!
Sorry it has taken a week to get something on the website, but as I am sure you all know work can be crazy at times especially after being gone for a week. I did manage to get an email out last Sunday to everyone and hopefully you have seen it. I would like to thank Ted and his family as well as Bill and his family for coming out and meeting our group and giving us a try. It was great meeting everyone and we look forward to seeing more of both your families, that is if we did not scare you off. :) We had a great time as expected, although we did not predict how busy the Spangler Hills campsite was going to be we still had a great time and everyone was able to find us. The big group ride to the pinnacles was longer than expected, but when you have that large a group things go slowly, all in all I think everything had a great time and I am looking forward to the New Years trip.
So now on to the New Years trip, I heard quite a few people ask where we were going and they proposed a new location. We usually head out to Cuddeback Dry Lake bed for New Years, but I am open to anyplace, so if you have someplace new that you would like to go please let me know and we can put it to a group vote.
Here are the locations I heard.
Cuddeback Dry Lake Bed
Calico
Dove Springs
Ocotillo Wells
Cal City
Penguin Rock
Charlies Place
As usual if you don’t not send me back an email with a recommendation or a vote on one of the above locations your default vote is for Cuddeback. I plan on heading out on the New Years trip on the 28th or 29th, so that gives us three weeks to figure out what the plans are. I know we all get super busy around this time of the year with all the holidays, but please try and get back to me so we can get everything figured out. Keep in mind that the MLK weekend trip is only 6 weeks away!
Pictures should be up in the next week or so as long as some video that Ted took of one of the rides. I would haveit up soone, but twith all this snow I am heading to Mammoth Mountain on Thursday! Yeah me, call lme if you want to join me!
Thanksgiving on November 23rd - 29th!
Hey everyone, it's time to find out who will be coming out for the Thanksgiving trip and what the plans are this year.
I had previously sent out an email asking if everyone was good to go to Spangler Hills this year for Thanksgiving and I heard a lot of yes' from everyone, so the plan is to head there and camping out in an area that might be new for some of you. Spangle Hills is north of Randsburg and east of Dove Springs, lots of great riding and close to Jeep trails too. So unless I hear any opposition to this Spangler Hills is the plan. I will send out better directions and locations once I have some more time and it figured out.
Last year turned out great and we had a lot of incredible food and I would like to repeat that if possible. In order to do that we are going to need you to let us know if you are a.) coming on this trip b.) if you would like to participate in the Pot Luck Thanksgiving dinner and c.) what you are planning to bring.
Poker Run update:
Well after almost everyone cancelled on the annual Poker Run weekend event Crash, Ditch'em, Trevor and I did manage to go out to Gorman for a day ride. Other than Trevor getting into a head on and Jason (his new nickname is Ditch'em ) leaving him there hurting, broken down and alone the trip was uneventful. We had to send Jason back to find Trevor and discover what was going on only to have some stranger pull up and tell Crash and I there had been an accident. So things to keep in mind for the next time we ride, if no one is behind you don't have Jason in front of you cause you might just get left behind.
See you in a few weeks!
Poker Run on October 23rd - 25th!
So we have a decision to make, do we attend the Poker Run this October or do we pass it up and go someplace else? Since we (I really mean Aida) are not participating as much as we have in the past due to some indiscretions we found with the donations, do we want to still attend this event or take the opprtunity to go someplace else that is not as busy and dusty? During the last outing we had up at Kennedy Meadows we discussed the next few trips and some suggestions came up that I want to propose to everyone.
October - Instead of going to the Poker Run we go to Johnson Valley for some riding & Jeeping
November - Thanksgiving we head to Spangler Hills (just North of Randsburg).
December - New Years we head to Cuddeback or Dove Springs
January - MLK Weekend we go to Calico
So let me know your thoughts on these trips and where you would like to go. If you don't reply back I will take it that everyone is good with these locations.
Kennedy Meadows Trip - For those of you who could not make the Kennedy Meadows Trip, here is a 360 Degree view of what the area looked like from one of the Fire Towers. The riding was incredible and challenging, we had a great time out there and if you couldn't make it you missed out. I have quite a few pictures I am working to get up on the web site, so keep checking back to see the pictures.
The next trip is going to be on Memorial Weekend, May 22nd - 25th!
Sorry I have not sent out an email earlier, I have been working 70 hours a week and not had any time to update the web site or send out an email. So this is going to be quick post just to see who is coming this weekend to Dove Springs. We talked last trip about Dove Springs so I hope that is still good with everyone. I know there are a few of us heading out on Friday, but wanted to make sure we had a good idea of who was going to make it this weekend.
In anticipation of all that I have going on at work I am including a list of trips for the next year so everyone knows what the plans are for the year, I will still try and send out an email and update the web site as well. This list includes all the riding trips as well as other trips to lakes and skiing up in Mammoth. You are all more than welcome on any of the non riding trips, I just had to plan out my the rest of the year for my vacation time and figured I would share it with everyone. If you come up to Dove Springs this weekend we can all talk more about these trips. If I have not seen you in a while and you are not joining us this weekend you can email about any of these trips. If we have not seen you in a while (Addison), I think it’s time you start making time to go riding. We are not getting any younger!
Hope to see you all out there!

4/07/09 - The next trip is going to be the Barstow Poker Run
I know I have not been very active in updating everyone lately with what is going on in regards to our riding trips, but I am finally bringing you some news. Sorry about not getting back to everyone, work has been killing me lately.
The Barstow Poker Run is upon us again (see flyer), the dates are Saturday April 25th and Sunday the 26th. I will be heading out on Friday the 24th and hopefully we get to see you out there. If you plan on coming out please let me know so we can keep an eye out for you.
Memorial Weekend is May 23rd to the 25th, so plan on going out, where I have no idea since no one has made any suggestions but as always if you have someplace in mind let me know so we can start planning that trip. You can cast your vote here or just send me an email.
Trip to Lake Lopez, Trevor is planning a trip to Lake Lopez in the near future, it’s a great lake for fishing and Pismo Beach is only 20 minutes away. There is a water park open during the summer and it’s a great place for the kids to play. If you are interested in joining him on this trip please send him an email.
A Message from Crash Thompson! “For the past few years we have been talking about planning a 1 to 1.5 week long trip to Moab, UT. We would like to actually do it this year. We are thinking mid to Late June so kids would be done with school for the year. Who would be interested in going and would those dates work for everyone? Let Courtland or myself know if you are interested and which dates would work for you, if the dates listed are not options. The plan is to stay at camp grounds with full hook-ups and other family activities with easy access to riding and jeep trails.”
So if you are up for any of these riding times please let me know and keep in mind we are also planning some other camping trips that include riding and non-riding to various locations. Send me an email or give me a call if you want more information.
2/03/09 - Uploaded Video and pictures from the Dads Ride trip last weekend.
1/07/09 - The next trip is going to be on Presidents Weekend, Febuary 13th - 16th!
For the next trip location I believe we discussed going to Dove Springs, if there is someplace other than Dove Springs you want to go to please let me know. But for now plan on going to Dove Springs, I believe most of us will be heading out on Friday.
We had a great time out at Johnson Valley, I think those of us that had not been there in a long time forgot just how big Johnson Valley really is. In three days I dont think we covered even a quarter of the available riding area. We had no real problems other than a couple broken covers on two bikes which we JB Welded so we could ride the rest of the weekend, you can see the damage in some of the pictures. If you took any pictures or video and want to share them with everyone please get them to me. I think we need to try and make it back out to Johnson Valley before summer gets here if possible, we need to figure out a weekend to go so if you have any recommendations of when please let me know.
I created a new Videos section. I have put up some of the videos that some of us have taken so be sure to check them out. Be patient, I do not have a streaming web server so they take a while to load up.
I also added all the pictures I took from the trip to Johnson Valley, there is a great picture of Jamie going down and Scott... well being Scott.
Upcoming Trips
1/07/09 - MLK Weekend Trip , January 16th to the 19th!
For the next trip location we decided to go to Johnson Valley for MLK weekend, it’s off the 247. Here is some info from Google Maps "Johnson Valley is run by the Bureau of Land Management. Johnson Valley is the second largest OHV area in the California desert and contains some of the most diverse landscapes. Elevations range from 2,290 to 4,640 feet above sea level. The rolling hills, steep mountains, open valleys, dry lake beds and sand dunes of Johnson Valley invite exploration by OHV riders. Johnson Valley is easily accessible. From I-15, take Bear Valley Rd eastbound. Travel east to hwy 247 and then north on Camp Rock Rd. The entire trip is paved roads until you go the last 4 miles. That is on a well groomed (bulldozed) dirt road. 5th wheels and toy haulers can get in/out with no problems." So if you can make this trip please let me know so we can keep an eye out for you.
The New Years Trip was great, I hope everyone had a great time and enjoyed the fireworks show. I have added the pictures I took from this trip and if you took pictures or videos please make sure you get them to me so we can share them with everyone else. Other than once again losing one of our DesertRiders.org signs to thieves we had no problems and no breakdowns. It was another great trip and I look forward to seeing everyone on the next trip.
We are looking at going to the AMA SuperCross in Anaheim on Feb 7th, of you are available and interesting in going please let me know so we can get tickets for everyone in the same seating section. We are planning on getting tickets in the next week, so if you could let me know soon it would be appreciated.
The next trip after this MLK Weekend trip will be the Presidents weekend trip Feb 13th to the 16th. I believe we are also looking at doing a Kennedy Meadows and Ocotillo Wells trip this year and trying out some other riding spots we have not been to in a long time. So keeping checking for more trip information.
Added more pictures from Tiffany from the the Thanksgiving trip. Make sure you check them out.
12/04/08 - Added more pictures from the Thanksgiving trip. Make sure you check them out.
12/02/08 - The New Years Trip to Cuddeback Dry Lake is 12/27/08 to 1/3/09!
The next trip will be over New Years at Cuddeback Dry Lake bed. Hopefully Larry and/or Jerry will come through with some more fireworks so we can have another spectacular show for New Years Eve. If you plan on coming out please let me know so we can plan accordingly. More details will be coming shortly about this trip.
Thanksgiving trip details - We had another great Thanksgiving trip and I wanted to say thank you to everyone for making it a great trip with an incredible Thanksgiving dinner. We ended up with about 40 people for dinner, but we had more than enough food for everyone and everything was delicious.
We had a few new faces this trip, hopefully we did not scare them too much and they decide to come out with us again. It was a pleasure meeting everyone and we hope to see you again soon.
Unfortunately we did have one accident, Cali was airlifted out and ended up with a broken collar bone but I hear he is doing fine. There were a few other problems (Trevor’s Suburban took a dump, Larry forgot his trailer keys, I forgot the Jeep keys), but we got them all sorted out, everyone made it out and we ended up having a good time.
If you took any pictures please send them to me and I will get them up on the website to share with everyone. I have the pictures up that I took as well as the ones Aida took, so make sure you check them out. Tiffany took some video and as soon as I get that I will figure out how to put it up to share with everyone.
Well we finally really tested the Jeeps out by going up some canyons and down some really tough canyons with some good size drops. We all made it out after dark with no broken parts, just a few bent pieces on Bill Jeep. Time to start upgrading Bill!
See you over New Years and have a Happy Holidays everyone!
11/03/08 - The Thanksgiving Trip to Calico is 11/25/08 to 11/30/08!
We are once again heading out for Thanksgiving week 11/24 – 11/30 and we are trying to finalize the details. At the poker run everyone decided to head out to Calico again for Thanksgiving week, so we have the destination decided but we are trying to demine who is coming and how many of us will be there and when.Since we can no longer camp on the or by the dry lake bed Larry offered to head up and scout out some areas to make sure we get a good spot that can accommodate everyone coming. So if you plan on coming please let me know so we can ensure we get a spot big enough. As far as when everyone is heading out I know some of us are going out early Thanksgiving week and some will be coming on Friday after Thanksgiving.
I will be heading out on Tuesday 11/25, and we will put up the DesertRiders.org signs to make sure everyone can find us. In anticipation of our usual Thanksgiving feast we are trying to get everything figured out so we know who is bringing what for Thanksgiving dinner, so let me know what you are bringing or would like to bring.
I sent out an email to the group, but in case I missed someone please make sure everyone knows about this trip and if you have any questions please eihter call me or send me an email.
8/29/08 - The Barstow Poker Run is coming up 10/24/08 to 10/26/08!
Well the annual fall Barstow Poker Run is upon us and riding season is once again under way. We are heading up to the Barstow Poker run in Stoddard Valley the last full weekend in October. Please let me know if you are going to make it so we can make sure we keep an eye out for you.
We are also heading out for Parker Dam on the Colorado River this week, so if you feel like making a last minute decision to come out and use your water toys or just want to ride all day and relax next to the river after riding come on out, give me a cal lfor the details.
I have also added the pictures from the Dove Springs trip that we took the week after Labor Day. There are some great shots of some of the guys doing the walk of shame up a hill.
6/05/08 - We have a couple of trips coming up, so mark your calendar!
8-30-08 to 9-1-08 The first trip is Labor Day weekend August 30th to September 1st (Saturday to Monday), we have not decided where to go for this trip yet but I am sure it will be fun. Gorman and Cuddeback have both been mentioned for this trip so if you have a preference please let me know ASAP, otherwise it will be a last minute decision.
9-3-08 to 9-4-08 Since some people can't make the Labor Day weekend, but still want to go riding so we have decided to head out on another trip September 3rd and come back on the 4th. This will be a quick trip and looks like it will be a quick quy's trip, we will head out early Wednesday morning and come back on Thursday afternoon. We have quite a few people planning on attending this trip so if you are interested please let me know. I believe Dove Springs have been slated for this trip.
10-2-08 to 10-7-08 We also have another trip planned to Parker Dam on October 2nd - 7th, this is not only a chance to enjoy your water toys but there is a lot of open area to ride in. Last time I went I took the dirt bike and explored the area for hours and only hit a small percentage of the places to ride. So if you are interested in doing a surf and turf week please let me know so I can give you the campground info. They have full hookups for your RV and you basically ride straight out of the camping spot across the road into the desert.
10-24-08 to 10-26-08 The Poker Run in Stoddard Valley, make sure you save the dates.
6/05/08 - I have added more pictures from the Memorial Dat trip that Tiff just sent me, be sure to check them all out.
5/31/08 - Mammoth or Kennedy Meadows? Late June or Early July
I have added the pictures we took from the last trip on Memorial Weekend to Dove Springs, take a look. We had a really good turn out and it was great seeing everyone again.
There was talk around the campfire to do a Jeep trip up to the Mammoth / Kennedy meadows area in the late part of June or beginning of July. If you are interested in going on a trip please let me know so we can make sure it gets coordinated ASAP. I am definitely in for one of these trips if someone wants to join me.
I am sure there will be a few day trips coming up soon, but now that it is getting hot out it looks like most of the trips now will be to the river until the September / October time frame. If you are interested in doing a day trip let me or some else know.
We are heading out to Parker Dam once again here in June; we will be there from June 11th to the 17th. If you are interested I believe there are still some camping spots free and there is also some great riding out there as well.
I also just added the pictures from the Silverlake (Lake Arrowhead area) Day trip we took in March, this is the trip where I had my head on with another rider coming down the trail in the opposite direction. Thanks to Trevor there are a couple pictures of me looking a little stunned. There is also a picture of the stream I decided to go through instead of around like almost everyone else, I ended up completly soaked since it was about 3 feet deep. Who knew, at least I made it through unlike Ray who got stuck in middle of it. We even got a picture of the nice mud puddle Trevor went through getting himself soaked as badly as I was.
5/15/08 - Memorial Weekend at Dove Springs May 23rd - 26th?
We are heading out to Dove Springs for Memorial Weekends, we are taking the Jeeps and bikes so there will be plenty of toys for everyone to ride in. Please let me know if you are coming so we can ensure we get a big enough camping spot.
4/05/08 - Barstow Poker Run - Stoddard Valley April 25th - 27th?
Barstow Poker run, need I really say more. We will be camping the the same spot and I am sure we weill have a few people showing up. If you plan on joining us please let me know.
1/28/08 - Presidents Weekend at Calico or Dove Springs Feb 16th - 18th?
MLK weekend turned out to be a bust with all the last minute cancelations. A few of us day tripped up to Gorman instead, it was a perfect day for riding, little dust, slight breeze and all around one of the nicest days we had have to ride in a while. I am thinking of heading up for another day trip to see if I can ride in the snow before it all melts, if you are interested in going please let me know.
Since we did not get up to anyplace on MLK Weekend I am going to leave it up to everyone as to where they want to go. If you have a preference you better tell me now, otherwise I will just make a decision for all of us and then let you know where to drive to.
Please keep in mind we have other trips that are being planned:
Glamis Sand Dunes - March trip / Non Holiday Weekend
Mojave Jeep trip - Still waiting for Larry to plan this for the April / May time frame I believe.
Mammoth Jeep Trip - Addison and Courtland have done nothing in the planning of this trip around June yet.
1/7/08 - MLK Weekend at Dove Springs Jan 19th - 21st?
I have not had any confirmation as to where we are going yet but I have heard Dove Springs and Cuddeback were both mentioned, Cuddeback was suggested since Stacy has some family heading up there. If you have a preference please let me know ASAP, I think Dove Springs would be my first choice but let me know what you think. I am happy to go anywhere.
We had a great but cold trip out to Cuddeback for New Years, it was still warm enough to have a great time, do some riding and have some fun in the Jeeps. We had quite a few people attend this year and a few people we had not seen in years even came out, all in all it was just nice to see everyone again and catch up. We welcomed in the New year with a great fireworks show thanks to Larry and Aida, you two came through again and we all appreciated the show.
I got some more pictures up from the Thanksgiving trip and I am still waiting on the pictures from Mark.
As far as pictures from the New Years trip, I am still waiting on Aida *hint-hint* for her pictures but the pictures I had taken I have added to the site. I am also now working on adding some video we took as well, but that may take a little longer to get up.
Please keep in mind we have other trips that are being planned:
Glamis Sand Dunes - March trip / Non Holiday Weekend
Mojave Jeep trip - Larry is going to plan this for the April / May time frame I believe.
Mammoth Jeep Trip - Addison and Courtland are planning this trip around June
11/28/07 - New Years trip at Cuddeback dry Lake December 27 - January 1!
Well we had a great time in Calico over Thanksgiving and I think we all appreciated that we were not surrounded by hundreds of people and noise till hours of the night. It was strange though never actually riding our bikes since we ended up driving the Jeeps all week; but they sure are a lot of fun. I got the pictures up from the Thanksgiving trip, between Aida and I think there were almost 600 pictures and I am still waiting on the pictures from Mark. Not all of the pictures are up yet, but I expect to have them up in the next day or two.
We will be planning a trip out to Glamis in the early part of next year so those of us that like the sand get to do some sand riding at least once this season.
11/1/07 - Thanksgiving is just around the corner and we still have not decided where we are going to go. As you all know we have been going to Glamis for Thanksgiving for almost 10 years now, but there has been some talk of going someplace else this year so everyone can join us since not everyone is setup to ride in the sand. So if you have any ideas on where you would like to see us go please let me know ASAP. I know there are a few of us that still would like to make it down to Glamis this year if we decided to skip Thanksgiving this year so I am sure we will plan a trip or at least a 3 day weekend to go play in the sand.
Another few trips we keep talking about are one to Kennedy Meadows in the spring time and then Utah over next summer. If you would be up for either of these two trips or have any other locations you want us to go to please let me know so we can start planning now.
I have put up the pictures from the last trip to Barstow; they can be viewed under the pictures section. Once again Aida came through and had over $4000.00 worth of donations and raffle prizes to help raise money for the benefit of the Toys 4 Tots organization in Barstow. We had a few people cancel at the last minute due to the fires and other things so it turned out to be a small group of us, but we still had a great time and we missed seeing everyone there. Hopefully everyone can make it out to the next event over Thanksgiving or at least the New Years event.
8/21/07 - Fall is upon us and that means its time to start riding again!
The first trip of the year is the Barstow Poker Run, the Poker Run is Oct on 27th - 28th but most of us will head out on Friday the 26th to make sure we get a good spot. This Poker Run will benefit the Toys for Tots charity in Barstow, so bring some toys for the girls and boys if you can. I will be sending out an email shortly to everyone as well with the Poker Run flyer for all the information. I know Larry and I are planning on bringing the jeeps as well as the bikes and quads, so bring whatever toys you have and lets have some fun.We are still going to Lake Havasu in the beginning of October 4th - 9th, so if you are interested in going please let us know!
7/29/07 - There have been a few of us talking about doing a Jeep trip up to the Mammoth area in September (we are still open to the weekend), if you are interested in going please let me know, either shoot me an email or post in the forum thread. We are looking at just camping old school with tents and roughing it a little, we are hoping to find some good spots to ride and get a few new places to go.
I also posted information on a trip to Lake Havasu in October, so if you have a water toy and want to use it let us know!
3/30/07 - I just received the flyer for the Barstow Poker Run and have put it up on the site for everyone, just click on the link. The Poker Run is on April 28th-29th (Sat & Sun), but we most of us will head up the Friday before to get our normal camping spot and to get an extra day of riding in. Please remember this is a charity event so if you can bring up items to raffle off or other donations I am sure they will be put to good use.
I will also be sending it out in an email to everyone just to make sure they are aware that it is coming up. I am hoping for a big turnout for this event and hope to see everyone out there; we might even see the guys from San Diego on this trip. If you plan to join us at the Barstow Poker Run please let me know so we can plan accordingly and make sure we have left enough room for all the RV's. I am currently fixing up my new old Jeep and plan on bringing it up if I finish everything, so if you have a Jeep and want to have a little fun please bring it.
We are also heading out to Parker Dam next Friday, April 6th to the 10th. So if you have no plans and want to enjoy the water and sun come out and join us. Just shoot me an email if you are interested in joining us and I can send you the info or look in the forum under “River Connections” and you will see some info there.
2/19/07 - We had another fun and eventful trip to Calico this past weekend and I have put up all the photos I had taken on this trip, I am also going to put up a a zip file of all the photos in case anyone wants them. So make sure you check out the Pictures page, I think Scooter took a few pictures as well, but I am still waiting on the pictures from the last trip so I wont hold my breath on getting them. Thanks to Larry, I was able to get to Calico and make it back home with the band aid he made for my truck. There are a couple of pictures of the various pieces holding my intercooler on for my turbo. There was also a Jeep rally going on so we stopped and watched them do a little rock climbing, it was very impressive watching these guys get over the huge rocks. There are a few pictures of the Jeeps as well.
The Next confirmed trip is going to be the Barstow Poker Run on April 27th - 29th. This is going to be a big trip as usual and I am hoping we get to see all of you out there. I think we need to plan a weekend in March to go riding, at this time I would say March 23rd - 25th looks like a good weekend, if there are any objections to this time please let me know. As for where to go I think I will let someone else decide that, so let me know.
Dont forget we also have the Parker Dam trip coming up April 6th - 10th, you can jet ski and ride here so you get the best of both worlds.1/27/07 - The plan is to head out to Calico for Presidents weekend, if you are interested in joining us on this next trip please let me know. We have the GPS coordinates and the driving directions here. I think I am going to send out an email as well to everyone to try and light some fires under the backsides of those that have not been out in a while. I think some of us will be bringing up our Jeeps as well, so if you have some bigger toys feel free to bring them.
1/15/07 - Were back from Dove Springs and we are almost all thawed out. Only a few of us decided to brave the weather and we were rewarded with some incredible riding and some bitter cold. It got down to the single digits in the nights, it was too cold to even be out at the fire on Saturday night. Sunday night was not as bad and we were able to enjoy the night by the fire. I put all the pictures I took from the trip on the Pictures page so be sure you check them out. Scooter has more pictures and as soon as I get them I will put those up as well.
The Next trip is going to be Presidents weekend on February 17th - 19th, I dont think we have decided on a location yet so if there is someplace you want to go please let me know ASAP so we can plan it out.
We also have some other trips coming up to keep in mind, we have a March trip (Not sure which weekend yet) and then two trips in April. In April we are heading out to Parker Dam and we have the Poker Run in Barstow the last weekend in April.
1/6/07 - We just found out that Joshua Tree is currently closed so we have decided to head out to Dove Springs for MLK Weekend, we will look into going to to Joshua Tree once it opens later in the season. If you have any questions please let me know and if you plan on going let me know tha as well. Hopefully I will see you all in a week.
1/1/07 - We had another great New Years Trip and I would like to thank Larry and Aida for providing the fireworks for New Years Eve. It was cold and windy the first two days we were there, but after the 28th we got some great riding weather for the weekend and New Years Eve. The moon was almost full so the desert at night was spectacularly bright. We rode into Randsburg a couple of times for lunch and on Sunday it was packed; I think there are some pictures of the hundreds of riders that had the same idea. As usual we explored some caves during some of the rides and stopped at other mining related places.
I have put up all the pictures Aida and I had taken, you can find them in the pictures area under "New Years - 12/27/06 to 1/1/07". I know more pictures are coming from others so I will get those added as soon as I get them, if you want to email me pictures you took of this trip please send them to Courtland@DesertRiders.org.
The next trip is Martin Luther King weekend January 13th-15th, Joshua Tree area has been mentioned as the destination and our back up plan at this time is Dove Springs if Joshua tree doesn’t work out. We should know in a few days where exactly we are going. If you are interested in coming please let me know.
12/26/06 - Well New Years is only a few days away and from the weather reports it is going to be cold out at Cuddeback. There is a chance that it might rain tomorrow but that will help keep the dust down if it does, the report for the rest of the week is cold and dry, with highs being in the 60's and the lows at night being in the 30's. There should be a few of us out there on Wednesday and more coming up at the end of the week, if you need any info please call my cell phone. Hopefully we will get to see you out there.
12/05/06 - A big thanks goes out to Larry and Aida, they came through on the new signs to help guide everyone to our camping location and we will be putting them up on the next trip (New Years) so keep an eye out for them. These should be pretty easy to follow and hopefully give us some free advertising as well. If you are planning on coming out on the New Years trip please let me know, I plan on heading out on the 27th of December and want to ensure we get a spot large enough for everyone to park.

11/26/06 - This years New Years Trip is going to be 12/27/06 – 1/1/07, we are heading out to Cuddeback Dry Lake. This is the same place we were at last year and everyone expressed interest in going back again since everyone had a great time. We will have fireworks for New Years Eve and from what I am hearing it looks to be another big group, if you are planning on coming out on the New Years trip please let me know so we can make sure we are looking for you to arrive. We are having new signs made up, they should be ready for this trip and they should read www.desertriders.org. The signs will be on the same yellow reflective Cal Trans signs with arrows pointing the way; hopefully we won’t lose any this time out. If we do not end up getting the signs done in time for this trip, look for the K&K signs pointing you in the right direction. Last year it was cold out at Cuddeback Dry Lake and with the weather we have had this year there is no telling what it will be like until we get there. So plan on it being cold with a chance of it being warm and sunny, hopefully we don’t get any heavy rain and everything works out for us.
Thanksgiving 2006 information - I have posted all the photos from the Thanksgiving trip on the website, there are quite a few photos since i was testing out a new camera but you can check them out under the pictures section. We had a really small group this year, only a few of us decided to brave the crowds at Glamis Sand Dunes, Aida cooked a complete Thanksgiving dinner with Turkey, Ham and all the fixings and we even had pies for dessert. Thanks again Aida for taking such good care of all of us. Hopefully next year we can get more people to make it out and enjoy a Thanksgiving of good riding and great food.
I hope everyone has a Happy Holidays and that we get to see you over New Years, if you have any questions or need any further information about the trip please let me know.

11/4/06 - I finally got the pictures from the Barstow Poker Run up, there not too many but they do show some of the trails we rode.
11/4/06 - Thanksgiving is just around the corner and that means we have another trip coming up, we are heading out to Glamis once again this thanksgiving week and this year we are thinking of doing something a little different this year. Usually we head out on Tuesday and stay until Saturday, celebrating Thanksgiving at Glamis with a big Turkey and all the fixings, this year we are floating the idea of heading out on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and staying until Wednesday. This would give us a the same amount of time to ride the dunes, see everything and then make it home for Thanksgiving on Thursday with our families. This would make it possible for the people that want to come out to camp and ride in the dunes with everyone but still spend the holiday with their families possible. If you are planning on coming out to Glamis I will be sending out further information on this trip as we get closer, as usual you can find all the information on the DesertRiders web site under “Places to Ride/Camp” and then “Glamis Sand Dunes”. There are directions on how to get there as well as a picture of our normal camping spots as well as weather information.
So first, I would like to know who is coming out on this Thanksgiving trip. Second, if you are planning on coming out, what days would you prefer to go?
Saturday to Wednesday or Tuesday to Saturday
The Poker Run info
We all had a great time out at the Barstow Poker Run last weekend and once again Aida came through with a truckload, yes a full F350 truck bed overflowing with donations and gifts for the Toys for Tots program. We had one winner this time around; Connie received a free entry into the next poker run for having an Ace high flush. Nice job Connie! We had a great turnout and hopefully we will see those of you who were not able to make it out on one of the next two trips. I expect to have the pictures of the Poker Run up on the web site in the next couple of days, so look for them soon.
New Years Trip 12/28/06 – 1/1/07
We are planning on heading out to Cuddeback Dry Lake for New Years Eve this year. This is the same place we were at last year and everyone expressed interest in going back since everyone had a great time. We will have fireworks for New Years Eve and from what I am hearing it looks to be another big group, hopefully we might even get our friends from San Diego to come up for this trip.
8/6/06 - We had a hot Labor Day weekend out at Dove Springs, only a few made it out but we still had a great time riding and we found some of the interesting sites to see. We definately need to come back here when the weather cools off. Well we are heading out to Parker Dam this weekend and I dont expect it to be any cooler, but at least we will be in the water.
We have the Barstow Poker Run coming up in October, this is usually our biggest trip of the year in terms of the amount of people that go so if you are planning to come out on only a few trips this year make sure this one of them. For information on the Bartsow Poker Run please check their website http://www.barstowpokerrun.com. The dates for this trip are October 28th and 29th, I will be heading up on the 27th hopefully in the early morning so I can get some riding in on Friday. As usual if you have any questions please let me know or post them in the forum and some one will get you an answer.
4/20/06 - Here is the flyer for the Poker Run next week, it is an Adobe PDF file and you will need Adobe Acrobat to view it. If you don't have Adobe Acrobat you can download it here.
4/18/06 - Well the spring time Poker run is just around the corner, actually its just a little over a week away. I have updated the directions information for Stoddard Valley, so if you do not know how to get there look here are the directions. I just got the flyer for the Poker Run yesterday and I will put the flier on the website for additional information for everyone, this should be done by tomorrow night. I hope to see everyone at the Poker Run, its been quite a while since we have been riding due to all the crazy weather and I am sure we are all itching to go out. If you have any questions please let me know, you can email courtland@desertriders.org.
4/10/06 - The trip to Parker was great, sunny perfect weather and we all had a great time. I understand it rained here the whole time so I don't think we missed much. Other than the water be a little cold it was a great time to be there, we share the whole river with 2 other people it seemed like. Hopefully more of you can join us on the next trip out there; looks like it might be in August. I will put the dates up as soon as I get them.
2/17/06 - Well as I write this update it is hailing outside my house and that could only mean one thing... we decided to cancel the trip to Dove springs this weekend. It was decided that the chance of it raining and even snowing on us was just to high to risk going out, that and the high for Dove Springs this weekend is going to be 38 degrees in daytime and in the mid 20's at night. Just a little too cold even for us no matter how big a fire you get going. So we will figure out when the next trip is and get it posted for everyone. It should be in the forum Calendar and I will post it on the news page as well.
On another note, I will be sending out emails from info@desertriders.org until we get everyone checking the forums regularly and posting on a regular basis. If you have not signed up for an account on the DeserRiders.org forum please do so, this will be the best way to schedule meeting places and times with everyone. Plus you will be able to post messages and recommend places to go on our trips.
Well I hope everyone has a great Presidents weekend, enjoy the holiday I we hope to see you soon.
2/09/06 - The new website is starting coming together, I got the forums up and running tonight and I am starting to get some content on the webpage's. If you see anything you think needs to be changed let me know. Be sure to check out the pictures section, I have added the pictures I had from the last two trips out.
2/08/06 - The new DesertRiders.org Website is up and running, this should be an easy place to get the trip information and get a hold of everyone that will be going on the trips. Hopefully we can better coordinate our trips and figure out who is and is not going on them. I hope this also helps with those people (Aida) that says they never received my email, or the other 6 I sent after. I know the email fairy forgets to deliver sometimes so check this website for info.
